Overview

Statistics is the basis of Data Science and is a critical skill to understand Machine Learning and advanced AI principles. Advanced Placement Exam for statistics is an introductory college-level statistics course that introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data.

This course lays the foundation for a students wanting to develop a conceptual and practical understanding of the applications of statistics for use in data science and maching learning applications. The coverage in this course also prepares an individuals for the College Board's Advanced Placement Program in Statistics, commonly known as AP Statistics. The AP exam is a great way to prove your academic proficiency in your college applications and these also provide you credit in your first year of course work in US and Canadian colleges. These exams are also increasingly being recognized across the globe for admissions . More details on the AP statistics course can be obtained on the course home page of college board.

The course content is organized into ten broad units, with each unit further broken down into teachable segments called topics.

  • Unit 1: Exploring Data
  • Unit 2: Distributions
  • Unit 3: Linear Regression
  • Unit 4: Sampling & Experiements
  • Unit 5: Probability & Random Variables
  • Unit 6: Sampling Distributions
  • Unit 7: Inference for Pouplations
  • Unit 8: Inference for Means
  • Unit 9: Inference for Two Variables
  • Unit 10: Preparing for the AP Statistics Exam

An optional certification (paid separately) can be received by meeting course requirements from the Tenese Board of Regents course on edX.

The approach for teaching in the course will b the flipped classroom approach where videos and reading may be assigned before the class. During the live class the difficult sections of the videos would be explained and problems discussed and solved. We would also be using online activities to ensure that the concepts are discussed and well understood.

An overview of the flipped class approach is available below
